In real life, people believe in pseudo-science. Everyone read books, and believes that to be the ultimate truth and everybody else is wrong. In Idiocracy, you don’t have flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers. You have dumb people proud of not knowing stuff. So there is still a difference.
