    I think you are reading too much into it, in many cases it probably is a “different looks interesting” kind of situation. In some cases, especially when it has become a fetish, yea might be a deeper psychological aspect.

      “Looks different and it’s interesting” usually isnt the kind of thing I hear described as race play, thats just having ‘a type’ or fetishization. Race play refers to kink dynamics where themes around race are the basis of the sexual interaction, or a component, often involving power dynamics around race

      I’m speaking mostly as someone who’s part of the kink community and for whom kink/bdsm play a role in identity, so I may have a more narrow interpretation of it than some, but if you look up the definition I think you’ll find it generally refers to something more specific than just finding people who are aesthetically different from you to be attractive
