i’ve recently introduced a new rule for myself - i’m only ever to have one plate, one bowl, one mug, one set of cutlery, up to 2 kitchen knives & 2 pots/pans dirt at a time. if i want to cook more and my usual set is dirty? well, gotta clean them first (though this has also helped me get in the habit of cleaning right after i’m done, so i don’t spend time hungrily waiting for the crusty pans to soak)

honestly, this has been working great for me. the huge pile of dirty plates and cutlery at the end of the week? no longer a problem, no longer a daunting task, because it no longer exists! there’s one working set, and that’s it

this also allows me to enjoy my favourite mug all the time instead of once a week :3

  • back when LSD wasn’t demonised by the US government and people were free to study it - scientists found out that after about a week of taking the same dose you’d feel 0 effects. our bodies build up tolerance to LSD crazy fast

idk how true that is but i’ve seen people online say that if you want the same effects day after you need to double what you took the day previous

  • i always use this as an example of how deeply the languages we use shape how we understand the world

even the answer to the question “how many fingers do you have?” changes depending on the language, and that’s a physical fact that seems to not have any degree of subjectivity to it

fun fact! when you put a bunch of people from different nationalities in a room together, and lock them in for prolonged periods of time - their accents will eventually blend into one. linguists have noticed exactly that happening to scientists at polar research stations, where you get stationed usually for 6 months at a time. linguistic mimicry is a rather strong thing
