Which of course is miles better than to be named after a slur for disabled people, but still not the best SSO.

    Huh? Which software?

It’s something you might have called someone with a physical disability on the school yard in the 90s but I have not heard anyone use it in that way in a long long time

I’ve never seen it used as well, hence the “apparently”.

Even wiktionary lists this as Etymology 2 with little explanations

Unfortunately GNU Image Manipulation Program, when shortened to its 4-letter acronym and common name, is also a slur against people with disabilities.

The developers didn’t name it after the slur on purpose, but they also refuse to change it for some reason :/
