Only dumb firstworlders who haven’t seen struggle not even from afar, or people tortured by the CIA could believe that the pre Industrial era was better lol, people plainly lived shorter, worse, lives with more painful deaths, without the hability to dream to do something grater for 99% of people.

In the modern world, in most countries, you can at least live a life, do stuff, even study, back then, for 99% people was “attempt not to starve or fall ill to disease and breed a lot of kids so some survive childhood.”

He was an angry, murderous misanthrope who used that philosophy to justify his irrational feelings and ultimately actions.

No, I don’t think humanity was better off pre-industry, in the era of lordship and peasantry, at best. If you have a problem with your car, you fix the problem, you don’t throw your arms up and say “cars are a disaster and should have never been invented!”

Okay okay, I get it, however that won’t stop me from saying that cars are a disaster and should have never been invented.

How are you going to fix your car when the part that needs replacing can only be replaced with a part from the original manufacturer matched to your ECU and they stopped making them?

Of course the part needs to integrate with the onboard computers so needs to be signed so it can’t be a used part. To prevent theft of course.

The replacement process requires special tools only provided to technicians at Brand Name dealers, or you’ll brick your ECU. Again to prevent theft you understand.

Now you’ll need to buy an entirely new vehicle because you can’t replace a throttle position sensor that costs $12 to produce.

If you think that’s far fetched… look into what John Deere does.

Capitalism is sprinting past the worst imaginings of the Unabomber.

That doesn’t mean his methods are justifiable or that industrialisation was a mistake but he was ahead of the curve in understanding where capitalists would seek to extract profit.

Your points are fine, but I think the OP you are replying to may have meant the car as the system, not the literal car within the system.

Now you can expand your comment to match their original intent with: how do we change the system when… For public safety you understand… to protect the children, you understand… To. . .

And at that point you may reach a rather hopeless cross-road.

I fail to see how sending package bombs to some Professors and grad students, a computer store owner, was “fighting modern technology”.

Did this ‘genius’ think some bombs would force people to stop thinking?
