This has never been the case. People calling themselves conservatives have always been all about tearing down existing systems in order to magically replace them with a fever dream about how it was “in the good old days”. Conservatism has always been a destructive and dangerous ideology.
Nah, man. Conservatives are the basic irritation of an old man like myself not wanting to change, because it’s fine. I finally understand the world and then these transes come along and want me to change the way I talk? Can’t they just pick a lane? Booo!
(I try not to listen to that urge in me, btw, and as a result I have accepted my bisexual self, got a cool trans-masc boyfriend at age 46 after a 20 year drought, had some seriously good sex, and gained a lot of fun new ideas. I understand conservatism, and I can respect it in some contexts, but I prefer progress.)
Reactionaries, though, they are spoiled brats. Instead of just refusing to change, they actively try to destroy what they fear. They try to control other people because they cannot accept that anyone else has rights. They are sociopaths, and they control the USA.

Some “conservatives” may not agree with every single point but the ideology remains the same.
