Be careful with what you are watching in the next few years. Hollywood gave itself a diverse face in the last few years. Put in black actors, had some strong women in lead roles, had some gay characters and so on. I’m afraid that we will see some movies pushing hart right MAGA topics in the next time. Movies that are pushing for traditional gender roles, have gay people as evil masterminds, immigrants as criminals and so on. We already saw that with all those movies with evil arab guys in the bush era. Hollywood was taken over by Trump’s tech billionaires, you will see this turn it in the media you are watching. That will influence you and maybe you shouldn’t watch such stuff

Coming soon to a movie theatre near you. And every streaming service. And as an unskipable 3hr 30min ad on Youtube. And as part of the start-up routine of Windows 12.

INT. FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE - DAY

                          JOHN RAMBO
“Cap, these woke, gay immigrants want to stop generative AI. We have to stop them.”

                          BATMAN
“Rambo’s right, and these disabled lesbian Democrat voters will stop at nothing. They must be detained, processed and, where necessary - which is always - terminated.”

                          INDIANA JONES
“Agreed, Batman. We absolutely have to protect our billionaires’ wealth and their way of life. We’ve got might on our side. I know Hunt, McClane, and Reacher are in and, all the way from across the pond, so is Bond. And Harry Potter. But do we have Bourne and Skywalker?”

CYBERDYNE SYSTEMS MODEL 101 [AKA THE TERMINATOR]
“Affirmative. Both have answered the call! And we have Toretto and Blade.”

                          HANNIBAL LECTER
“Wait. Toretto and Blade are both… un-white.”

This is true, but the bigger threat I see is the mainstream news media and social media, as the Ellison media empire expands it continues to encompass more and more news channels, it already contains CBS and TikTok, with the upcoming merger it’ll also include CNN. Other Trump supporters include Jeff Bezos who owns the Washington Post and Elon Musk who owns Twitter.

When I was young I pirated because I didn’t have an income and couldn’t pay. Now I pirate because I don’t want to give any money to terrible companies.

There was a period in the middle where I didn’t pirate anything, but that’s beside the point.

I remember that day of the “general strike” where the simple idea was to not spend any money on big corps. I got confused, because to me, that’s a 365-day-a-year lifestyle thing for me.

Maybe I’m lucky that I don’t have lifestyle needs like pet food, baby supplies, etc, and markets have been cornered there. But there’s plenty of forms of entertainment and leisure without giving it to Disney or Amazon and the like.

      Quick start guide:

      1. VPN, my recommendation: mullvadVPN. (You need this, because copyright trolls look for easy targets, such as people having their real IP exposed. You don’t want to be that, they won’t fight with the VPNs hosting partner, then with the VPN company, then with your ISP, just to get to you, they only extort people they can reach directly.)
      2. Download qBittorrent (FOSS) and install ALL search plugins
      3. Activate your VPN and search with the integrated search function, it will look through all sites you installed plugins for and present them to you directly in the programme.
      4. Enjoy a collection of TV and movies you actually own.

There is a setting to bind qbittorrent to your vpn. PLEASE use this as using it without accidentally could get you in trouble. The binding is a last resort safety mechanism to prevent it from even working if the vpn is off.

I keep hearing conflicting info on mullvard and sailing, do they block port forwarding? Which may affect seeding to some places? Like private… sailing seas? I am a bit unsure how this works, but if I am sailing for linux distros, I want to be able to seed them.

Mullvad does in fact block port forwarding. If it is absolutely required (it is if you want to be able to connect to the most people) then you should look into possibly a seed box or another reputable vpn.

Mind you, it will work without port forwarding but not as well with it.

Main thing is to know if your ISP cares or not. Mine does, so I use a vpn. You can set qbittorrent to only use the vpn so if it gets turned off then just nothing will download.

You can do that on windows just downloading something like qbittorrent and mullvad vpn. You can also set them up in docker containers if you are familiar with that. It allows you to have the vpn only affect qbittorrent rather than your whole PC.

I do all of this on linux as well but had originally set it up on windows.

Additionally to the other answers, take a look at stremio with Torrentio. A few of my friends use it (I’m using a private tracker), it’s basically as convenient as using Netflix AFAICS.

Note that a VPN might be required to avoid getting fined in some countries as stremio is basically simply torrenting videos sequentially and simultaneously playing them, and torrent is often monitored by authorities

        keep information to yourself

Do you mean “don’t share information about pirating”, or “don’t share the content itself”? Torrenting seems opposed to both stances…

Or you could ignore those services and watch indie stuff instead and pay for those directly

There’s art out there that’s worth buying. You don’t have to pirate anything

Also, who cares if you don’t see the latest prequel or sequel or reboot or preboot or requel by Disney? Be proudly out of the loop

If you don’t watch big streamers’ releases at all, you give them even less power. And if you buy indie, you give their competition power. You break the monopoly.

This is the ideal and one of the reasons I watched Youtube in the first place. I’ve found amazing stuff over time, like Veritasium, but I miss oldschool scripted media. Especially calmer stuff with fewer cuts. So much modern cinema is too fast.

If anyone has any recommendations for indies, I’d love to hear them.

Once in a while maybe you will feel the urge To break international copyright law By downloading MP3’s from file sharing sites Like Morpheus or Grokster or LimeWire or KaZaA But deep in your heart you know the guilt would drive you mad And the shame would leave a permanent scar 'Cause you start out stealing songs, and then you’re robbing liquor stores And selling crack and running over school kids with your car

So don’t download this song The record store’s where you belong Go and buy the CD like you know that you should Oh don’t download this song

Oh you don’t want to mess with the RIAA They’ll sue you if you burn that CDR It doesn’t matter if you’re a grandma or a seven year old girl They’ll treat you like the evil, hard bitten criminal scum you are

So don’t download this song Don’t go pirating music all day long Go and buy the CD like you know that you should Oh, don’t download this song Don’t take away money from artists just like me How else can I afford another solid gold Humvee? And diamond studded swimming pools, these things don’t grow on trees So all I ask is everybody, please

Don’t download this song (don’t do it, no, no) Even Lars Ulrich knows it’s wrong (you can just ask him) Go and buy the CD like you know that you should (you really should) Oh, don’t download this song

Don’t download this song (Oh please don’t you do it) Or you might wind up in jail like Tommy Chong (remember Tommy) Go and buy the CD (right now) like you know that you should (go out and buy it) Oh don’t download this song

Don’t download this song (no no no no no no) Or you’ll burn in hell before too long (and you’d deserve it) Go and buy the CD (just buy it) like you know that you should (ya cheap bastard) Oh, don’t download this song

Is there any type of post that doesn’t belong in a shitposting community? Because I know some people have very strong opinions about what shitposting is around here. And personally, I don’t think this fits. But maybe shitposting is meant to just be a pure miscellaneous grab bag of anything? Yes, I read the community rules which say “everything goes”, but the reality of what is posted seems to suggest a different spirit of the law.

I mean downloads basically limited by your bandwidth, usually the highest quality (like blu-ray rip 4k, almost no compression) etc.

But if you don’t have issues, well probably don’t bother.

Another thing if you aren’t using a VPN (which you probably should), they’re safer, as well… they’re private.

If you’re willing to spend a bit of money to pirate, just go with usenet. I was a private tracker guy for years, but I got sick of keeping up ratio when I mainly wanted shit that wasn’t super in demand. Have been so much happier since I made the move, and my downloads finish much faster than they ever did before.

              This seems pretty comprehensive: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/1b2m5gd/a_detailed_guide_of_plex_for_beginners_and/

However, while LLM usage is not in vogue around here, this is one situation where I think an LLM would be very handy.

You can use something like ChatGPT to read that post and then come up with a sensible step by step procedure where you can install and configure each program once at a time.

Let’s say you have a few movies and shows already downloaded.

You can get your feet wet by installing Plex Media Server, or another solution (Emby and Jellyfin are the top contenders). Then when you want to automate downloading if torrents, you get into the next step, and so on so forth.

Rarely does someone build an end game device at the beginning. Usually it’s a learn as you go and upgrade as the need arises.

The most important thing in the very idea behind any of this? Get started. One step at a time. Make mistakes and learn from them.

Prowlarr and nzbget are the two containers I run that handle actually downloading things, and sonarr/radarr for automatic media management.

For usenet, you need to get a provider and an indexer, and those can be gotten for just a couple bucks a month. Honestly, well worth the expense.
